Speculative Organology: Composing Instruments, Objects and Environments
Artistic research at the Norwegian Academy of Music (NMH), Oslo.
The project investigates musical instruments as physical, digital and fictional assemblages, connecting composition with instrument design, acoustic questions, interaction and computational representation.
Selected research and practice
- SOM — Speculative Organological Model: a framework connecting acoustic, ontological and fictional approaches to instruments.
- SOOG: a diagrammatic and computational system for instrumental relations.
- Biome Consurgens: an ensemble and digital-environment work in development.
- M5live: an online electronic-music environment.
- Musiki: a platform for music learning, writing and shared research tools.
Areas of practice
Composition, experimental instrument design, software, speculative design, rehearsal and performance. The research brings these practices into dialogue with acoustic modelling, materials, digital fabrication and embodied AI.
